Artist Biography

Sean McMorris started life as the left-handed “illegitimate” child of an American single mother in Paris, France. Music cast a spell early on, under the auspices of Elvis Presley, the Beatles and the tutelage of both an honest-to-God nun and bebop legend Kenny Clark.

After graduating from the French lycée, Sean headed to the Berklee College of Music with a letter of recommendation from Leonard Bernstein. He dropped out to join Boston rock band Option One, experiencing his first taste of success. He soon relocated to the Big Apple, landing in an East Village apartment adjacent to housing for the deaf, which meant his newly formed band PEG could rehearse in the living room. After the release of their self-titled independent CD, Sean enrolled in City College to pursue a BFA in Jazz Drumming. On campus, he performed for Ron Carter and John Patitucci. He later shared the stage with Tony Award-winner Bill Irwin and rock icon Richard Lloyd, who went on to produce The Blondes, Inc.’s eponymous album, with Sean on drums.
Today, Sean performs around NYC as a solo singer/songwriter and drummer for the Lazy Lions. In 2013, he released his debut album Lo & Behold, thereby fulfilling his lifelong ambition of joining the legion of left-handed drummers, such as Phil Collins and Don Henley, who forged successful solo careers. Elevated Man, his latest release, takes flight on October 23, 2015.

Press Release

Elevated Man, Sean McMorris’ second solo album, makes its debut on October 23rd, 2015. Soaring melodies and rich harmonies take you on a flight that begins with the strange but true story of a man in a flying lawn chair. Sean McMorris reveals deep affection and respect for this unlikely hero and his other characters—whether singing about a man paralyzed by indecision in Lay Down, or the sting of betrayal in Sweet Sarah Ruth. Loaded with lyrical songs and a compelling voice, this album will appeal to fans of Neil Finn, John Lennon, Mike Scott and Elliot Smith.
