The Layne Smith Band is a Country/Gospel group fronted by lead singer and songwriter Layne Smith.  The band also includes Georgia Country Music Hall of Fame lead guitarist Bud Jones, drummer David Morris, rhythm guitar and mandolin player Brian Donohue, bass player Richard Morris and fiddle player Anné Anderson.  The vocals are handled by Layne, Lynda Gelarden, Bud Jones and Anné Anderson.  The band is currently playing churches and events in Georgia and Tennessee.
The members of the Layne Smith Band played music in North Georgia and Tennessee for the past three decades before banding together in late 2013.   Bud Jones has been a session musician and band leader since the early 1980s in and around Atlanta, GA, playing everything from old time country music to Southern Rock.  Lynda Gelarden sang for the Gospel group New Creation.  Anné Anderson is currently the concertmistress for the Gwinnett Symphony Orchestra.   Richard Murray has been an active bass player since the early 1980s, playing in numerous bands in and around Atlanta.  Brian Donohue is a self-taught mandolin and guitar player who learned his craft while traveling the world with CNN.  David Morris was the house drummer for his local church in Marietta GA for over a decade before joining the band Out of Nazareth with Layne in 2011.   David and Bud are longstanding friends who have been bandmates in several bands.    Collectively the band represents a wide and varied mix of musical talent which leads to the unique sound of the band.
Layne Smith is a copious songwriter, having written all the songs on her two CDs “Out of Nazareth” and “Stand Strong”, with many more songs waiting to be recorded.  She derives her inspiration from her love of God and family, and digs deep into her West Tennessee roots for the music and stories she writes and sings.   Her musical influences range from Donna Fargo to Elvis Presley and from Patsy Cline to Joan Baez, including Lynn Anderson and many of the great female Country singers of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
