Artist Biography

Global Shakedown is an alternative rock act based in Los Angeles, CA.  Ravi Mahalingam is the founder of Global Shakedown and is its principal writer and musician.  The musical style of Global Shakedown is a blend of the alternative rock sounds of the 1980's and 1990's, ranging from guitar based bands like U2, REM and The Smiths to the lush soundscapes of groups like Massive Attack and Coldplay.
Global Shakedown issued its debut release in June, 2013 entitled, "A Time to Recognize".  The 11 track album is available for purchase through iTunes, Amazon, and Google Plus as well as for streaming on Spotfy, Rdio and several other music sites.  Ravi recoreded and performed the entire album in Los Angeles, CA.
A Time to Recognize is a diverse collection of upbeat alternative rock songs that covers a wide range of styles and topics. There is a little something for everyone on this album.  From the driving, yet hummable post-punk rock of "Mehrunissa" and "She Casts the Spell", to the blend of soul and electronic of "Give", to the grand soundscapes of "Camden Town", "Marina del Rey" and "Jagat", to the politically topical songs "Rabin" and "Brushfire", this eclectic collection of pop songs is as interesting as any album available today.  It is often said that 'one can't be all things to all people', but Global Shakedown asks the question 'Why not?' Rather than limit itself, Global Shakedown seeks to embrace what music has to offer and simply have fun stretching the boundaries of what one can do in the world of pop music.
