Artist Biography
Jef Joslin has always been a forward thinker and a dreamer, looking for life opportunities that would take him down the road to his ultimate dream. It wasn’t enough for him to play quarterback at a Division 1 University on full scholarship. It was just a small part of his journey.
Growing up in the Appalachian mountains of Johnson City, Tennessee, football seemed like the most natural choice for him, yet it was only a detour to what would eventually be his life long career. He gave up his scholarship and transferred to Middle Tennessee State University to pursue his dream of making music. He studied audio engineering and music production and played the Nashville club scene while developing his own unique style of songwriting. He taught himself to play guitar, bass, keys and drums, giving his audiences a taste of his full range of sounds in the studio and on the stage.
Jef moved to Atlanta, Georgia after 5 years in Nashville and signed with Brian Richardson of B.o.B., who took him under his wing working with producers and writers at Grand Hustle. His time with Richardson also included a 6 month residency at Atlanta’s Smiths Olde Bar and an opening slot for Janelle Monae, Wiz Khalifa and B.o.B at SXSW’s Atlantic Records showcase in Austin, TX in 2011.
Jef’s true dream, however, was to live on the beach on the west coast, play his music, create art and surf. He has now accomplished all of that and much more, since his arrival in Los Angeles in January 2012. He writes songs about life’s adventures, love and the pursuit of happiness. His love of writing songs about these subjects flows fluently as he is inspired by much. His style of writing is a fusion of pop and soul with other styles weaved in.
