Artist Biography

In the Indie artist world, there’s no question that country/folk singer/songwriter Luanne Hunt has made her mark.
Throughout her illustrious career, the Southern California resident has built an impressive list of accomplishments, including scoring numerous No. 1 hits on Independent country music charts around the world.
She is best known for her chart-topping single, “Christmas Without You,” which was recently named by Sweden’s largest daily newspaper, Dagens Nyheter, one of the top 25 Christmas songs of all-time.  The list also included songs by Merle Haggard, Joni Mitchell, Otis Redding and other music superstars.
“Christmas Without You” also landed on two "Best of 2015 Female Country Holiday Songs" lists in the major online U.S. publications, Autostraddle and Truckers News.
“Being the only Indie artist on these lists with so many music stars felt like a real accomplishment,” said Hunt, who recently scored a Top 5 hit on UK country radio with her single, “Bluer Than the Bluegrass.”  “It’s a huge challenge to find success in the ‘big leagues’ as an Indie artist, so these honors were quite a validation for all the work I’ve put into my craft.”
Hunt has been working hard at making quality music for twenty years.  Her efforts paid off big time in 2007 when her CD, “Breaking Through,” produced two hit singles on U.S. and European Charts. The enchanting “Solace In The Wind” reached No. 1 on the European Country Music Association’s chart (Belgium) in July, 2010.
It also peaked at No. 37 on the Indie World Country Chart, which is the largest and oldest independent music chart in the genre.
Additionally, the song landed on the 2009 Grammy ballot in two categories: Best Country Song and Best Female Country Performance.
“With a sweet, folksy voice, Hunt turns back the hands of time thirty years to Irish/British folk with 'Solace in the Wind.'” Said Maurice Hope of RocknReel Magazine.  “And you know what? She is very good at what she does. Music is expressive and pure.”
Among Hunt’s other chart-toppers are “He Was There,” “There is a Fountain” and “Pine and the Dogwood,” which all reached No. 1 on Europe’s premier Hotdisc Christian chart.  Several of her folk songs also have held the No. 1 spot on Roots Music Report’s Folk Chart for four or more consecutive weeks. The chart is based on radio spins worldwide.
"Luanne's voice is beautiful and haunting and reminiscent of a female version of Simon and Garfunkel,” said Bobby Jo Valentine of Music Worth Reviewing. “Her lyrics are powerful, her musicianship is solid, and there are simply a thousand things to love about this artist. She will be sure to go far."

Hunt began pursuing a professional music career in the mid-1990s. She found immediate success with her critically-acclaimed single “I Don’t Bother Counting,” which was frequently played on the former KIK FM country radio station in Orange County, California and on other stations throughout the Southwest.

Over the years, Hunt’s songs have been played on AM, FM, satellite and Internet stations around the world, including Pandora radio. In 2007, she was featured on an “On-Air” interview on the “Steve and Johnnie Show” on Chicago’s WGN Radio.  In 2009, 2012 and 2015, Hunt was named "Christmas Star of the Day" on Doug Stephan's syndicated "Good Day" radio program and was featured in an “On-Air” interview.

Press Release

Indie Recording Artist Luanne Hunt Lands on Three “Best Of Holiday Songs” Lists with Country Superstars

Independent recording artist Luanne Hunt recently joined the ranks of legendary country stars when her song “Christmas Without You” landed on three “Best of Holiday Songs” lists in major global publications

Dagens Nyheter, Sweden's largest daily newspaper, named the tune among its top 25 Christmas songs of all-time.  Truckers News and the award-winning Autostraddle included "Christmas Without You" on its "Best of 2015 Holiday Female Country Songs" lists alongside Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Dolly Parton and other legendary singers.
“To be the only Indie artist on those lists feels like an amazing accomplishment,” said Hunt, who has recorded 13 studio CDs on the Star Creek Entertainment label. “It’s validation that all the hard work I’ve put into my music has paid off.”

Hunt’s “Christmas Without You” was originally written for legendary country singer Patsy Cline by Lawton Jiles and Charles (Buster) Beam in 1960.  According to Jiles, Patsy never had the opportunity to record it the way it was originally intended and was heartbroken she was unable to give her fans a signature Christmas song.
“I’ve always believed if Patsy would have recorded ‘Christmas Without You’ it would have become a holiday standard,” said Jiles, who also has written songs for Hunt, Porter Wagoner and Janie Fricke. “It’s the kind of Christmas song you hear once and want to sing along. It’s very simple, but the simple songs are usually the ones people love the most. I’m not surprised Luanne’s version is doing so well.”

Since its release, “Christmas Without You” has racked up a number of impressive accolades, including topping the European Country Music Association chart in France, Denmark and Austria in December of 2011. It also was the second most played song in Europe that month and has frequently made the Top 10 list on the popular Sounds of Christmas Internet radio station.

“I got a rush when I first heard Luanne’s recording of ‘Christmas Without You,’” said Jiles, a friend and colleague of Hunt’s. “The song’s been in my head for years and to hear it done the way I always envisioned it is very exciting. It’s a perfect blend of the traditional and contemporary.”

“Christmas Without You” was produced by Eric Uglum (Alison Krauss, Ron Block, Ralph Stanley, Cherryholmes and Nickel Creek). It features an impressive twin-fiddle performance by folk/bluegrass fiddle sensation Christian Ward, who has shared the stage with Ricky Skaggs and has toured with Rounder Records artist Sierra Hull. Also on the single are Austin Ward (upright bass), Roger Gillespie (drums), Hal Ratliff (keyboards) and Uglum (guitar, mandolin and harmony vocals).
“I’ll never forget the day I recorded Patsy’s lost Christmas song,” said Hunt, whose songs in recent years have frequently topped the European country music charts. “I was standing there at the studio mic hoping that she (Patsy) was smiling down on me. I know her version would have been phenomenal, but I hope her fans will accept my recording and see it mostly as a tribute to one of the greatest country artists there ever was or ever will be.”
“Christmas Without You” is included on Hunt’s critically-acclaimed EP, “How Christmas Feels To Me.” It is available for a free download at www.luannehunt.com.
