Press Release

MEDIA RELEASE – May 2, 2015

Australian Eurovision Contender Released

Sydney-based music artist Amanda Easton will today launch a single 'The New Bohemians':  a theatrical electronic pop song which was considered for  Australia’s first time ever participation in the Eurovision Song Contest.

While Australia’s Eurovision representative Guy Sebastian ended up choosing one of his own compositions to perform, Easton says that befitting the nature of Australia’s wildcard entry, her song celebrates the fierce creative spirit of artists and  Australians in general. Her self-penned song was produced by UK Producer Matt Sladen and Australian Troy Duncombe and will be released worldwide alongside a Tech House remix by Steve Peach.

Music videos for both mixes will be launched in conjunction with the digital-only single.  In keeping with the strong independent theme of the song, Amanda decided to direct, produce and edit the video herself. It was shot by Wyvern Seeto, a well known photographer in the local Sydney gig scene.

“The theme is inspired by The Who's 'My Generation' but celebrates the courageous and determined attitude of 'my generation' of indie artists - my peers and people that continue to inspire me in this crazy musical world we choose to inhabit. I see the song and the video as a way for us to stand up and be counted, almost a historical document celebrating what we have all achieved - even if that rarely gets recognised or financially rewarded,” Easton said.

The music video features performances from 12 Australian artists from genres as varied as folk, metal and trip-hop.

'The New Bohemians' is the first single from an upcoming EP entitled 'Disco Disconnected'. In 2013 she launched her third commercial recording, EP 'Out of the Blue'. She released two self-penned albums before that, with two singles from her self-titled debut earning Top 10 positions in the Australian independent (AIR) music charts.

Amanda has toured extensively as a backing singer with multi-platinum artists Wendy Matthews and Richard Clapton, and performed with iconic Australian artists including Powderfinger (2000 ARIAs), Marcia Hines and James Reyne in concerts and television appearances.

Amanda also produced and hosted her own 13 Episode live music TV series in 2010 called 'PopTarts' which ran on TVS in Sydney and Channel 31 in Melbourne, showcasing female singer-songwriters.

‘The New Bohemians’ and ‘The New Bohemians Stereo Missile Remix’ are available on iTunes, BandCamp and most download stores.
